Scammers pose as police officers to steal €25,400 from three elderly women

Scammers posing as police officers have defrauded three elderly women in Lithuania, stealing a total of €25,400, reports LRT.

In Vilnius, two women were targeted. A 71-year-old reported that between July 6 and 9, unknown individuals posing as police officers tricked her into handing over €400 and a bank card. The scammers then withdrew €2,000 from her account, resulting in a total loss of €2,400. A 81-year-old woman also reported being defrauded of €8,500 on July 9 after a caller posing as a police officer convinced her to hand over the money to a stranger who arrived at her home.

In Šiauliai, a 74-year-old woman was scammed out of €14,500 on July 3. The fraudsters, speaking in Russian, posed as bank employees and police officers, convincing her to hand over her bank card to a man who visited her home. The money was later withdrawn from her account.

Preliminary investigations have been launched in all cases for fraud and impersonation of police officers.
