Strong winds topple trees onto cars in Vilnius, Klaipėda, and Palanga

Strong winds in Lithuania on Tuesday caused trees to fall onto roads and vehicles, with emergency services responding 56 times to remove fallen trees, according to the Fire and Rescue Department (PAGD) as reported by LRT.

The majority of incidents occurred in the coastal region, with Klaipėda County recording 24 cases, followed by Marijampolė (9), Alytus (8), Kaunas (6), Tauragė (4), Utena (3), and one each in Vilnius and Šiauliai counties.

Firefighters confirmed trees fell onto cars in Vilnius, Klaipėda, and Palanga. In Klaipėda, a tree collapsed onto a Dodge vehicle on Minijos Street at 15:52, requiring a chainsaw to remove it from the car and roadway. At 16:17, a tree fell onto a Toyota and a fence in Vilnius’ Pilaitė district on Taurupės Street, prompting rescue efforts. Later, at 17:18, a tree fell onto a road and a Toyota in Palanga’s Gedimino Street, where firefighters used a chainsaw to clear the obstruction.
