Scammers trick two Vilnius residents out of €35,000
Two people in Vilnius were defrauded of a total of €35,000 by scammers posing as bank employees and police officers, according to a report by LRT.
A 79-year-old man reported to police on Wednesday at 8:44 AM that unknown individuals called him on July 7 around 4 PM. The callers, claiming to be bank staff and police officers, deceived him into handing over €20,000 to an unknown man who arrived at his home. A pre-trial investigation into the fraud has been launched.
Later the same day, at around 7:30 PM, a 83-year-old woman reported that she had received a call in Russian from unknown individuals posing as employees of a telecommunications company and police officers. They tricked her into transferring €15,000. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated for fraud and the impersonation of a public official.
