Artūras Zuokas elected as new chair of Seimas Audit Committee

The Seimas Audit Committee has elected Artūras Zuokas as its new chair, following changes in the ruling coalition, LRT reports.

Zuokas, a member of the Mixed Group of MPs and the Seimas Anti-Corruption Commission, will have his appointment confirmed by a parliamentary vote next week.

In his new role, Zuokas said he will focus on state fund oversight and efficiency. “The Audit Committee’s duty is to make the state count its money. Every million spent inefficiently means less for defence, healthcare, or education. My goal is simple: the government must answer not only for whether funds were spent legally, but whether they delivered results,” he stated.

Zuokas was elected to the Seimas in 2024 with the “Freedom and Justice” party, winning 48.52% support in the Vilnius Naujininkai–Rasos single-member constituency, defeating conservative Vygintas Gasparavičius. However, his party failed to clear the 5% threshold in the multi-member constituency, receiving just 0.75% of the vote.
