Scammers trick victims out of €24,000 in Vilnius and Marijampolė

Scammers in Vilnius and Marijampolė defrauded victims of a total of €24,000 on Monday, according to a report by LRT and police.

A 89-year-old woman in Vilnius reported to authorities at 19:18 that unknown individuals, posing as telecommunications and bank employees as well as police officers, had tricked her into transferring €13,000 earlier that day around 08:46.

In a separate incident, a 71-year-old man in Marijampolė contacted police at 18:12, stating that he had been defrauded of €11,000 by scammers impersonating bank employees and police officers around 17:00 the same day.

Police have launched pre-trial investigations into the fraud cases.
