Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda will decide within days whether to approve the proposed composition of the new government submitted by Prime Minister-designate Mindaugas Sinkevičius, his advisor told BNS on Friday.

“The proposal will be evaluated in the coming days, and the president will make a final decision,” Frederikas Jansonas said.

The cabinet lineup must be submitted alongside the government’s programme, which will then be endorsed by the Seimas (parliament) before the new government can begin its work.

According to Sinkevičius’s proposal, several ministers from the previous government led by Inga Ruginienė will retain their positions. These include Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, Transport Minister Juras Taminskas, Education, Science and Sports Minister Raminta Popovienė, Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Grikšas, Justice Minister Rita Tamašunienė, and Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas.

New appointees include Taurimas Valys as finance minister, Martynas Katelynas as interior minister, and former Prime Minister Ruginienė returning as social security and labour minister. Ieva Andriulaitytė is proposed for environment minister, Lukas Alsys for culture minister.

The proposed coalition partners, the Democrats, have nominated Linas Kukuraitis for health minister, Kęstutis Mažeika for agriculture minister, and Lukas Savickas for energy minister.

The new government is being formed following a reshuffle of the ruling coalition, which currently holds 75 seats in the Seimas.
