Vilnius airport border guards detain man deported from UK

Border guards at Vilnius Airport have detained a 36-year-old Lithuanian man deported from the United Kingdom, LRT reports.

The man was wanted by Kaunas police since November 2025 on suspicion of criminal activity. He arrived on a flight from London on Tuesday afternoon, where officers from the Vilnius Border Guard Unit of the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) checked travel documents.

After identifying the man as the subject of a police search, border guards detained him and notified the initiating authority. Within an hour, he was handed over to a police convoy that had arrived at the airport.

This year, VSAT officers have detained 259 individuals (211 at airports) wanted for various crimes or offences by Lithuanian and foreign law enforcement agencies. Of these, 240 were Lithuanian citizens, with the remainder including four from the UK, four from Latvia, three each from Belarus and Russia, two from Moldova, and one each from Ireland, Romania, and Turkey.

In 2025, border guards detained 803 wanted individuals (583 at airports), with 702 being Lithuanian citizens. Others included 38 from Russia, 15 from the UK, 11 each from Belarus and Latvia, four from Ireland, three each from Moldova, Sweden, and Ukraine, two each from Israel, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, and seven from other countries.

In 2024, 767 wanted individuals were detained, including 705 Lithuanian citizens, 19 from the UK, 16 from Ukraine, six from Belarus, four from Russia, three each from Georgia and Moldova, two from Ireland, and nine from other countries.
