Seimo pirmininkas submits proposal to remove Šukys as deputy speaker

Seimo pirmininkas (Speaker of the Seimas) Juozas Olekas has submitted a draft resolution to remove Raimondas Šukys from his position as first deputy speaker, following Šukys’ resignation request, LRT reports.

According to the draft resolution, Šukys, a member of the “Nemuno aušra” party, submitted his resignation on July 1. He has held the position of first deputy speaker since 2025.

ELTA notes that the move follows the ruling Social Democratic Party’s decision to reform the governing coalition and end cooperation with “Nemuno aušra,” led by Remigijus Žemaitaitis. This shift has led to changes not only in the government but also in parts of the Seimas leadership.
