Raimondas Šukys from the “Nemuno aušra” faction will step down as deputy speaker of the Seimas, while Daiva Žebelienė will retain her position, LRT reports.

Following the exclusion of “Nemuno aušra” from the ruling coalition and the loss of its first deputy speaker post, the faction decided that Žebelienė will continue as the remaining deputy speaker, while Šukys will resign.

“We lost one position, and the faction decided that Daiva Žebelienė will continue, while Raimondas Šukys will leave the post,” Robertas Puchovičius, deputy elder of the “Nemuno aušra” faction, told BNS on Tuesday.

Šukys, who participated in the Seimas Board meeting on Tuesday, thanked his colleagues for their joint work. Seimas Speaker Juozas Olekas acknowledged Šukys’ contributions, stating: “Thank you, Raimondas, for your work. It was truly pleasant and beneficial; your participation added to the overall quality of the board’s work.”

Šukys has served as a deputy speaker since March 2025 and was appointed first deputy speaker in September of the same year. As the second-largest faction in the ruling coalition, “Nemuno aušra” originally held two deputy speaker positions. However, after the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party terminated its coalition agreement with “Nemuno aušra” in early June, the faction moved to the opposition, retaining only one deputy speaker post. The first deputy speaker position was allocated to the new coalition partner, the Democratic faction “Vardan Lietuvos,” which nominated Domas Griškevičius for the role.

The Seimas speaker can have up to eight deputies.
