Scammers speaking Lithuanian and Russian defraud Marijampolė resident of €19,600

A Marijampolė man was defrauded of €19,630 by scammers speaking Lithuanian and Russian over a two-month period, the Lithuanian Police Department reported.

The 63-year-old victim contacted Marijampolė County’s chief police commissariat on Tuesday at 13:00. He stated that between April and June 29, he had been in phone contact with unknown individuals at his home in Marijampolė. The fraudsters, communicating in both Lithuanian and Russian, convinced him to invest money into an online investment platform, ultimately swindling him out of €19,630.

Police have launched an investigation into the fraud.
