Early parliamentary election in Nalšia’s northern constituency set for November 8

Lithuania’s Seimas has scheduled an early parliamentary election in the single-member Nalšia North constituency for November 8, LRT reports.

The decision was approved by 101 MPs, with one voting against. The by-election follows the death of Liberal Movement MP Jevgenijus Šuklinas on May 28. The Central Electoral Commission revoked his mandate in early June.

Šuklinas, a well-known canoeist, was elected to the Seimas in 2024 with the Liberal Movement and was a member of the party’s parliamentary group.

Under Lithuania’s Electoral Code, a by-election must be held within six months when a single-constituency MP’s term ends early, unless general elections are due within a year.
