Video shows lifeguards restraining intoxicated man who tried to swim

Lifeguards in Vilnius had to physically restrain an intoxicated man who attempted to enter the water at a lake, according to a video shared by the city’s municipal services company Grinda.

The incident occurred at Žaliųjų Ežerų (Green Lakes), a popular swimming spot where crowds gather during hot weather. In the footage, two lifeguards can be seen struggling to prevent the man from entering the water, despite repeated warnings.

“Instead of monitoring the beach, our lifeguards had to restrain an intoxicated person. He tried to climb into the water, not understanding the real danger to his life and ignoring repeated warnings from lifeguards not to do so,” Grinda stated in a social media post accompanying the video.

The company reminded the public that alcohol consumption and being intoxicated are strictly prohibited on Vilnius beaches. “This is not a formality, but a necessary condition so that everyone can rest safely,” they added.

Temperatures in Lithuania are expected to ease slightly this week, with the oppressive heatwave subsiding in the second half of the week, according to Edita Gečaitė, a synoptist at the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service. While Monday remains hot, temperatures will drop to 27–32°C on Tuesday, with cooler conditions in western regions (24–26°C).
