Antanas Kandrotas, court, lithuania

Antanas Kandrotas, a Lithuanian national convicted of financial crimes and known by the alias Celofanas, attended a court hearing in Vilnius remotely on Monday, LRT reports.

The hearing at Vilnius City District Court was addressing charges against Kandrotas for allegedly assaulting public figure Valdas Bartkevičius in a public place. The case was reopened on April 22.

Kandrotas, who is currently outside Lithuania, appeared via video link. During the session, he attempted to communicate with journalists present in the courtroom, urging them to investigate the cost of the police search for him.

Earlier this month, Lithuania’s Court of Appeal upheld a final sentence of one and a half years’ imprisonment for Kandrotas, who has not served the term as he left the country. In early May, it was revealed that he had travelled to Belarus.

Lithuanian police had issued a domestic search for Kandrotas and indicated plans to extend it internationally. Authorities have declined to disclose further details of the search operations to avoid compromising their efforts.
