Social democrats mark 16th anniversary of Algirdas Brazauskas’ death

Algirdas Brazauskas, lithuania, Social DemocratsA group of social democrats gathered in Vilnius to mark the 16th anniversary of the death of Algirdas Brazauskas, the party’s honorary chairman, LRT reports.
Seimas Speaker Juozas Olekas, Transport Minister Juras Taminskas, and Vilnius District Mayor Robertas Duchnevičius attended the commemoration at Antakalnis Cemetery on Friday.
Brazauskas, a former First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania, was the first president of independent Lithuania after its restoration, elected in 1993. He later served as prime minister and remained one of the country’s most popular politicians.
