Lithuania turns back 20 illegal migrants at Belarus border

Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service reported on Friday that 20 illegal migrants were turned away at the border with Belarus over the past day, according to the BNS news agency.

Latvian border guards repelled 21 migrants on Thursday, while Poland recorded no illegal entry attempts on Wednesday.

This year, Lithuania has denied entry to 849 illegal migrants. In 2025, there were over 1,600 attempts to cross into the country from Belarus, compared to 1,002 in 2024.

Since the start of the migration crisis triggered by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,000 foreigners from entering the country illegally. The influx of migrants to the EU’s eastern members via Belarus began in 2021, with Western officials accusing the Minsk regime of orchestrating it.
