Democratic Party to propose agriculture, energy, and health ministers to president
Acting leader of the Democratic Union “For Lithuania” Virginijus Sinkevičius will present the party’s ministerial candidates to President Gitanas Nausėda on Friday, LRT reports.
The Democrats will take responsibility for agriculture, energy, and healthcare in the new government. The party’s candidates are expected to be announced soon after the meeting with the president, Sinkevičius said on the eve of the meeting.
Political sources suggest the party may nominate MP Kęstutis Mažeika for agriculture minister, Lukas Savickas for energy minister, and Linas Kukuraitis for health minister. Sinkevičius stated that the candidates would not come as a surprise.
A new ruling majority was formed and the government is being assembled after the Social Democrats terminated their coalition agreement with “Nemuno aušra”. In mid-June, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the Democratic Union “For Lithuania”, and the Lithuanian Farmers, Greens and Christian Families Union signed a new coalition agreement. This coalition holds 75 seats in the Seimas.
