Matulas leaves TS-LKD, plans new political committee for municipal elections
Conservative MP Antanas Matulas has left the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) and plans to establish a new political committee to contest next year’s municipal elections in Pasvalys district, according to a report by 15min.
Matulas confirmed to the portal that he resigned as chair of the TS-LKD Pasvalys branch three weeks ago and left the party entirely last week. Attempts by party leader Laurynas Kasčiūnas to persuade him to stay were unsuccessful.
He stated that he respects both the current and former TS-LKD leadership but cited disagreements within the Pasvalys branch as the reason for his departure. Matulas accused former colleagues of acting behind his back and raised concerns about transparency in their activities.
Matulas, who has served five terms in the Seimas, currently works as a doctor in the nursing department of Pasvalys Hospital.
