Liberal leader calls new coalition agreement a spending, not progress-oriented document

The leader of the opposition Liberal Movement, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, has criticised the new ruling coalition agreement, calling it a document focused on spending rather than progress.

“Speaking about the content of the coalition agreement, I would say that this is a coalition of spending, not of progress or perspective,” the politician told Žinių Radijas radio on Friday, as reported by LRT.

According to Čmilytė-Nielsen, the agreement outlines preparations for next year’s election campaign. “There are expenditures to please various groups, various allowances. There is a lot of talk about social justice, but essentially, this is a code for increasing spending. But nothing is said about what kind of perspective we are talking about. We hear very concerning numbers about inflation, which is forecast to be very high,” she said.

The new agreement was signed on Thursday by the leaders of three Seimas factions: the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the Democratic Union “For Lithuania”, and the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union and Christian Families Union. The factions committed to implementing a centre-left, socially oriented, financially stable, and investment-friendly policy.
