Justice minister calls for solutions to ensure smooth operation of Liteko system

Justice Minister Rita Tamašunienė has urged stakeholders to find solutions to ensure the smooth operation of Lithuania’s court information system, Liteko, following its recent launch, BNS reports.

Speaking at a meeting with representatives of courts, prosecutors, lawyers, and other institutions, Tamašunienė highlighted the need to address disruptions in Liteko II, which have directly impacted the work of courts, prosecutors, lawyers, and other bodies. Delays in document submission, registration, and case administration risk undermining the smooth functioning of the justice system, human rights protections, data security, and procedural deadlines, she said.

“Liteko II must operate reliably, and all system users must receive clear information about the sequence of work and how consequences will be resolved. It is also essential to strengthen communication with other institutions,” the minister stated.

The meeting agreed to ensure continuous, operational, and transparent communication with all institutions and court service users. The Justice Ministry emphasized its readiness to actively cooperate and provide necessary assistance to stabilize the situation as quickly as possible.

Participants also agreed to continue monitoring the situation closely and maintain inter-institutional cooperation to restore Liteko’s full functionality and ensure uninterrupted court operations.

Earlier, the Lithuanian Bar Association called on the Council of Judges and the National Courts Administration to publicly disclose timelines for resolving the issues and the future organization of court work. According to 2025 data, Lithuanian courts processed 193,000 cases, with 93% of civil and administrative cases handled electronically.

Liteko has faced disruptions since its update in early June. As a result, the Council of Judges has recommended submitting procedural documents through alternative means.
