Lithuanian Bar Association calls on judicial authorities to resolve Liteko system disruptions
The Lithuanian Bar Association has formally requested that the Council of Judges and the National Courts Administration address ongoing disruptions in the Liteko court information system, urging public clarity on deadlines for resolving the issues and the future organisation of court operations, BNS reports.
In a statement, the association argued that internal judicial self-governance alone can no longer resolve the problems stemming from the implementation of Liteko II. It called for transparent and public guidelines on the application of special provisions related to the system’s malfunctions, particularly regarding procedural deadlines, case distribution, and document submission rules.
The Bar Association emphasised that the disruptions undermine the authority of the judicial system, leading to postponed hearings, inaccessible case documents, and uncertainty over when the system will function properly. It stressed that ensuring citizens’ right to access courts and a fair judicial process must be the top priority.
Citing 2025 judicial statistics, the statement noted that Lithuanian courts handled 193,000 cases last year, with 93% of civil and administrative cases processed electronically. The Bar Association expressed readiness to cooperate with judicial authorities, offering expert assistance to find solutions, communicate with lawyers and their clients, and uphold the rule of law.
The Liteko system has faced technical issues since its update in early June. The Council of Judges has since recommended submitting procedural documents through alternative means.
