Democratic Party board approves new coalition agreement
The board of the Democratic Union “For Lithuania” has unanimously approved a new coalition agreement with the Social Democrats and the Farmers and Greens Union, LRT reports.
Acting party chairman Virginijus Sinkevičius told BNS after the board meeting that the authorized faction elder will sign the coalition agreement on Thursday.
The Farmers and Greens Union and the Social Democrats approved the coalition agreement on Tuesday. Earlier this month, the Social Democrats decided to terminate their coalition agreement with the “Nemuno aušra” party and invited the Democratic Union “For Lithuania” to join the majority instead.
The new ruling coalition of Social Democrats, Democrats, and Farmers and Greens would hold 75 seats in the Seimas. The Democrats previously participated in the ruling coalition with the Social Democrats and “Nemuno aušra” from November 2024 to August 2025, until the resignation of Social Democrat Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas led to the collapse of the majority. The Social Democrats then invited the Farmers and Greens Union faction to replace the Democrats in the coalition.
