Lazdijai mayor Miškinienė renews membership in Democrats for Lithuania

Lazdijai Mayor Ausma Miškinienė has renewed her membership in the Democrats for Lithuania party, the party’s board announced on Tuesday, BNS reports.

Miškinienė, one of the party’s founders, requested the reinstatement. Her membership was restored unanimously by the board.

“Three years ago, I decided to suspend my membership in the Democrats for Lithuania, resigning from my positions as deputy chair and board member. I did so to clearly address all the questions that arose at the time. I took full responsibility, provided evidence, answered all questions, and today I am very happy to return calmly and confidently to continue my work,” Miškinienė said in a party statement.

Party leader Virginijus Sinkevičius welcomed her return, stating: “In politics, actions matter most, and I believe her experience and engagement will be a valuable contribution to finding solutions for the people of Lithuania.”

As a mayor and renewed party member, Miškinienė automatically becomes a member of the party’s board and political council, as do other Democrat mayors.

Miškinienė had suspended her party membership in June 2023 amid the so-called “čekiukai” (checks) scandal.
