Teen sentenced to 8 years for brutal murder in Vilnius

A 15-year-old has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the brutal murder of another teenager in Vilnius’ Žvėrynė district last summer, LRT reports.

The Vilnius Regional Court ruled that the crime was carried out with extreme brutality, with the offender stabbing and beating the victim at least 35 times with a knife and a blunt object. The court noted that the defendant fully confessed, provided detailed testimony, and disclosed the motive, which led to a reduced sentence from the maximum possible 10 years for minors.

According to the presiding judge, the murder was motivated by the victim’s intention to disclose personal information about the offender. The judge also mentioned that the case involved a history of bullying, both at school and between the two individuals.

The court ordered the offender to pay €100,000 in non-pecuniary damages and €11,000 in legal fees to the victim’s family. The defendant’s parents have already covered the financial compensation. The ruling is not yet final and can be appealed.

The victim’s remains were found in a waste container and a nearby wooded area in Žvėrynė. The suspect, also a minor, was detained the day after the victim was reported missing.
