Palanga mayor reports data accessed by Social Security Ministry
The mayor of Palanga, Šarūnas Vaitkus, has revealed that his and his wife’s personal data were accessed multiple times by the Social Security and Labour Ministry via the State Enterprise Centre of Registers, Delfi reported on Sunday.
Vaitkus said he received information from the Centre of Registers that the ministry had reviewed his data more than ten times. In a Facebook post, he questioned whether this was an unauthorised attack on the state or potential misuse of authority by ministry officials.
He has since filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General’s Office, requesting an investigation into who accessed the data, the legal basis for doing so, and whether official powers were exceeded or abused.
The Prosecutor General’s Office previously announced in May that it was investigating unauthorised access to over 600,000 real estate registry entries, including personal identification numbers, from the Centre of Registers. Authorities stated that the access was carried out using credentials stolen from Migration Department employees working abroad.
Separately, the State Accreditation Service for Health Care Activities reported that more than 62,000 records containing medical professionals’ work and contact details were stolen this week, according to Health Minister Marija Jakubauskienė.
