The Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) has launched a pre-trial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the purchase of a flat in Palanga by the mother of Živilė Pinskuvienė, the mayor of Širvintų district, as well as public procurement processes in Širvintų, LRT reports.

According to the STT, the investigation aims to determine whether Širvintų district municipality may have created exceptionally favourable conditions for a specific supplier during public procurement, potentially in exchange for the transfer of real estate at a price below market value.

The probe is being conducted under articles of the Criminal Code related to bribery and influence peddling. No charges have been brought against any individuals at this stage.

The investigation is overseen by prosecutors from the Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The case follows reports by Delfi journalist Tomas Janonis and blogger Skirmantas Malinauskas, which revealed that Pinskuvienė’s mother, Marija Gudonienė, a member of the Širvintų district municipal council, had purchased a flat in Palanga for an unusually low price of €80,000.
