Lithuania warns Russia may plan provocations against Baltic states’ facilities
Lithuania’s Ministry of the Interior (VRM) has warned that Russia may be planning provocations against critical infrastructure and other key facilities in the Baltic states, LRT reports.
The ministry stated that Russia has recently spread unfounded claims that the Baltic states allow their airspace or territory to be used by other countries for actions against Russia. According to VRM, this escalating rhetoric aims to distract attention from military setbacks and undermine the resolve of Ukraine’s allies to continue supporting Kyiv.
In response, the ministry does not rule out that Russia may seek to increase regional tensions by staging malicious acts or provocations against Baltic facilities. “We are closely monitoring the situation, strengthening our preparedness and the protection of critical infrastructure,” Interior Minister Vladislavas Kondratovičius said in a statement.
VRM and the State Security Department (VST) have implemented additional measures to bolster security at key critical infrastructure sites and expanded the scope of tools to ensure resilience. The VST will provide enhanced physical protection for these facilities, with support from the Lithuanian military if needed.
