Lithuania approves creation of deputy defence advisor post at EU representation
The Lithuanian government has approved the establishment of a deputy defence advisor position at the country’s permanent representation to the European Union, as reported by LRT.
The role will focus on negotiations for the Military Mobility Regulation, which aims to simplify and accelerate the movement of military forces by land, rail, air, and sea within the EU. The position is set to be temporary, lasting until the end of 2027.
According to a note from the Ministry of National Defence, the deputy defence advisor will oversee the ad hoc working group on Military Mobility, responsible for the regulation’s negotiations.
The estimated annual cost for maintaining the position is around €197,000, to be covered by the ministry’s approved state budget allocations. The government stated that this decision aims to ensure smooth and effective leadership during Lithuania’s upcoming EU Council presidency in 2027.
