A planned meeting between Interior Minister Vladislavas Kondratovičius and Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas to discuss migration and civil defence has been cancelled, the BNS news agency reported on Monday.

Mindaugas Bajarūnas, an advisor to the minister, told BNS that the meeting was called off “due to a change in the work schedule.”

The two officials had been expected to review Vilnius’s migration policy, including Benkunskas’s proposal to require non-EU residents staying in Lithuania for more than three years to demonstrate at least A2-level proficiency in Lithuanian. A petition launched by the mayor on the issue has gathered over 22,500 signatures.

They were also set to discuss the implementation of a 2023 cooperation agreement on protecting critical infrastructure in the capital.
