Latvian border guards detain 62 irregular migrants near Belarusian border
Latvian border authorities apprehended 62 irregular migrants on Thursday, according to a report by the Baltic News Service (BNS).
Polish officials recorded no detentions the previous day, while Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service reported no irregular migrant crossings from Belarus for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday.
This year, Lithuania has blocked 775 attempts by irregular migrants to enter from Belarus. In 2025, authorities recorded 1,600 such attempts, down from 1,002 in 2024. Since the start of the migration crisis triggered by Belarus in 2021, Lithuanian border guards have prevented over 25,300 unauthorised entries.
The influx of irregular migrants into Eastern EU member states via Belarus began in 2021, with Western officials accusing Minsk of orchestrating the crisis.
