Storm sweeps across Lithuania with hail in Antanava and roof damage in Kaunas
A severe storm moved across Lithuania on Friday evening, bringing hail to Antanava and tearing roofs off buildings in Kaunas, according to reports by LRT.lt and the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHT).
Short but intense thunderstorms with heavy rain were recorded in multiple regions, with the strongest downpours reported in Kaunas, Tauragė, Panevėžys, and Šiauliai districts. The LHT warned that storms would continue moving northeast, accompanied by strong wind gusts of up to 15 m/s in some areas.
Residents shared images and videos in the Facebook group “Weather Enthusiasts” showing downed trees in Antanava after a hailstorm, as well as heavy rain in Kaunas, Radviliškis district, and Joniškis. In Kaunas, the storm damaged roofs, with photos showing torn-off sections.
The storm also disrupted power supply to thousands of customers, according to the ESO outage map.
LHT synoptician Simona Dalinkevičiūtė noted that while weekend weather would remain warm, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected. Overnight temperatures will drop to 11–16°C, with daytime highs reaching 18–23°C on Saturday. Sunday may bring brief rain, particularly in the southwest, with temperatures climbing to 21–26°C—slightly cooler in the Curonian Spit.
