Fegda pledges to rebuild 4 km road to Rūdninkai military training ground

The construction company Fegda, which previously laid a defective road to the Rūdninkai military training ground, has committed to fully reconstructing a 4 km section this year, reports LRT. The project will involve expertise from German engineers to ensure quality.

A contract was signed Friday by Lithuania’s Road Infrastructure Administration, the Defence Materiel Agency, and Fegda. Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas stated that work is set to begin in July and must be completed by the end of 2026, with no additional cost to the Ministry of National Defence.

Gediminas Gribulis, head of the Fegda Group, confirmed that a team from Munich Technical University will assess the road’s condition and propose reinforcement solutions within three weeks. “Germans are the world’s best specialists in road concrete engineering,” he said, adding that the project will include a thicker, stronger concrete layer and full structural reinforcement.

The exact cost remains undetermined, but Gribulis pledged full transparency: “We will disclose all technical decisions, progress, and costs to the public.” Earlier estimates by Fegda director Jonas Jablonskis suggested the reconstruction could exceed €3 million. The original concrete road, built in 2023, developed defects shortly after completion.

The Rūdninkai training ground is designated for use by a German brigade stationed in Lithuania as part of NATO’s enhanced forward presence.
