Lithuanian anti-corruption officers raid Mažeikiai water utility in graft probe
The Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) is conducting a search at Mažeikių vandenys, a water utility owned by Mažeikiai district municipality, as part of a pre-trial corruption investigation, LRT reports.
STT spokesperson Renata Keblienė confirmed the operation, stating that investigators are gathering evidence related to suspected corrupt activities linked to the company’s operations. “The STT is carrying out planned procedural actions—a search at the municipality-owned company Mažeikių vandenys—to collect necessary data for a pre-trial investigation into potential corruption offences, specifically suspected abuse of office,” Keblienė said.
No formal charges have been brought against any individuals at this stage, according to the spokesperson. The investigation is overseen by prosecutors from the Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
