Two suspects detained over €147,000 burglary in Vilnius Old Town, safe recovered from Neris River
Vilnius police have detained two men suspected of stealing property worth over €147,000 during a burglary in the capital’s Old Town last autumn, LRT reports. A safe linked to the crime was later recovered from the Neris River.
The break-in occurred in late October when the suspects allegedly forced entry into a locked apartment, stealing luxury watches, jewellery, cash, documents, electronic devices, and a safe containing additional valuables. The total estimated loss exceeded €147,000.
Following a criminal investigation, officers identified and detained a 1984-born suspect who confessed to the crime, implicating a 1980-born accomplice. The latter is also connected to a separate burglary in the Old Town. Both men have been placed in pretrial detention, the strictest preventive measure under Lithuanian law.
During the investigation, divers retrieved a safe from the Neris River believed to be connected to the case. The Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office continues to oversee the ongoing probe.
