Scammers impersonating police officers, medical staff, and telecom employees defrauded two women in Vilnius and Vilnius district of more than €21,600, Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) reports, citing the Police Department.

On Tuesday, a 58-year-old woman reported to Vilnius County’s chief police commissariat that unknown individuals called her at home in Vilnius district at 10:30 AM. Posing as a medical worker and a police officer, they tricked her into handing over €11,000 to an unidentified man who arrived at her residence.

Later the same day, a 65-year-old woman filed a separate report after receiving a call at her Vilnius home at 10:00 AM. The fraudsters, claiming to be telecom company employees and police officers, deceived her into surrendering €10,620 to another unknown man.

Pre-trial investigations into both incidents have been launched.
