Lithuania’s coastal and western regions under thunderstorm warning
The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT) has issued a yellow-level warning for thunderstorms and strong wind gusts in western Lithuania, including coastal areas, starting Tuesday afternoon, LRT.lt reports.
The alert, in effect from 12:00 to 20:00 local time, covers Klaipėda, Telšiai, Tauragė, and Marijampolė districts. Residents are advised to secure property and prepare for possible power outages. Ports may restrict vessel loading and movement during the storm.
LHMT recommends staying indoors during lightning, unplugging electrical devices, and avoiding open areas, lone trees, or metal structures. Motorists should remain inside vehicles with windows closed.
Meteorologists note that yellow alerts—Lithuania’s lowest warning tier—are advisory, while orange (severe) and red (catastrophic) alerts require immediate action. The forecast follows a stretch of warm weather, with temperatures reaching 25–27°C earlier this week.
Later forecasts predict sunny conditions through midweek, with daytime highs of 22–27°C and cooler nights (7–14°C). Scattered showers may return to southwestern regions by Thursday.
