New 2-kilometre cycling path opens connecting Kazlų Rūda to local beach

A new cycling path linking the Lithuanian town of Kazlų Rūda with a nearby beach has officially opened, local broadcaster LRT reports.

The nearly 2-kilometre route connects the town centre to the recreational and sports zone at Kazlų Rūda’s First Village beach. The path, equipped with lighting and rest benches, was constructed in two phases: a 1.7-kilometre section was completed last year, with an additional 300 metres finished this year to ensure direct access to the beach.

Funding for the 2.5-metre-wide path came from municipal, national infrastructure agency Via Lietuvos, and EU sources, with an additional €40,000 contributed by local wood-processing company Ikea Industry Lietuva.

Kazlų Rūda Mayor Mantas Varaška noted the project adds another completed segment to the town’s cycling network, which already includes routes to Višakio Rūda and Ąžuolų Būda. Plans are under discussion to extend the network further, potentially linking Kazlų Rūda to Bagotosios.
