Panevėžys City Municipality has extended its free public transport service to cover Mother’s and Father’s days, state news agency ELTA reported on Friday.

Special free bus routes to the Šilaičių and Pašilių cemeteries, previously available only on November 1–2, will now also operate on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Last year, 146 free trips were made on these routes over the two days in November, covering over 2,182 kilometres at a cost of €4,550 to the municipality.

The expanded service aims to ease travel for residents, improve urban mobility, and reduce traffic congestion near cemeteries. The first additional free transport day under the new policy will be June 7, Father’s Day.

Panevėžys also offers free public transport on all city routes every September 22 to mark World Car-Free Day.
