Vilnius police arrest man suspected of robbing three elderly women
Vilnius police have detained a 46-year-old man suspected of robbing three elderly women in separate incidents across the capital, state broadcaster LRT reported on Wednesday.
The suspect was apprehended last Tuesday following an intensive investigation. Authorities allege he targeted women withdrawing cash from ATMs in the Justiniškės, Žirmūnai, and Šeškinė districts, then followed them to their homes or secluded areas before assaulting them and stealing their money, payment cards, and other valuables.
Investigators confirmed the suspect had previously been convicted for similar crimes. A Vilnius court has ordered him to be held in pretrial detention, the strictest preventive measure under Lithuanian law.
The case is being handled by Vilnius’s First Police Commissariat, with oversight from the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office. Police noted the crimes were deliberately spread across different city districts in an apparent attempt to evade identification.
