Liberal Movement appoints Rudelienė to lead 2027 municipal election campaign

The opposition Liberal Movement has named MP Edita Rudelienė as head of its election headquarters for the upcoming 2027 municipal elections, the party announced Thursday.

During a board meeting on Wednesday, the party also confirmed Lukas Kornelijus Vaičiakas, the Liberal Movement’s executive secretary, as Rudelienė’s deputy. The election headquarters will coordinate preparations for the 2027 municipal council and mayoral elections, draft the headquarters’ structure, work regulations, and a model for coordinating party branches during the campaign period.

Rudelienė, the party’s first deputy chair and deputy leader of its Seimas faction, said the work would begin well before the official campaign. “The Liberal Movement has strong candidates and experience in local government, so we are actively preparing for the 2027 elections,” she stated.

She emphasised the goal of assembling professional teams nationwide to offer voters “responsible, modern, and results-oriented policies,” adding that dialogue with residents and communities would be a priority. “Strong local government starts with people who know their region best,” Rudelienė said.

A former mayor of Trakai District (2014–2021), Rudelienė currently serves on the Seimas Social Affairs and Labour Committee and the Suicide and Violence Prevention Commission. The Liberal Movement holds 135 seats in municipal councils and eight mayoral positions, though Kaišiadorys Mayor Šarūnas Čėsnas has suspended his party membership amid an ongoing corruption investigation.

Municipal elections are scheduled for spring 2027.
