Lithuanian border officers subdued an aggressive Belarusian citizen at the Medininkai border crossing on Friday evening, the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported on Monday.

The incident occurred when a Volkswagen Golf with Belarusian license plates approached the checkpoint, carrying two Belarusian men—a driver and a passenger. The passenger, visibly intoxicated, refused to exit the vehicle despite repeated orders and continued drinking alcohol in front of officials.

The man became verbally abusive, behaved erratically, and physically resisted officers. Border guards used restraint techniques and pepper spray to control the situation and ensure public order and their own safety. Even after detention, the man remained combative, shouting and refusing a breathalyser test.

Authorities issued administrative violation protocols for failing to comply with lawful orders and minor public disorder offences. The man was later transferred to Vilnius police custody. A fine will be imposed for his actions.

VSAT emphasised that non-compliance with border officers’ lawful demands, aggressive behaviour, or other public order violations at checkpoints are treated as serious offences and carry administrative penalties.
