Lithuanian man scammed out of €55,000 in investment fraud

A 50-year-old man from Marijampolė lost €55,000 to a Russian-speaking fraudster in an online investment scam nearly two years ago, police reported Monday.

The victim, born in 1974, contacted Marijampolė County Police on Sunday to report the incident, according to the Police Department. In August 2024, after posting an advertisement online about investment services, he was contacted by an unknown Russian-speaking individual who convinced him to invest in an online platform. The scammer then defrauded him of €55,000.

Authorities have launched a pre-trial investigation into the suspected fraud.
