Overnight apartment fire in Kaunas district forces evacuation of nearly 30 people

A fire broke out in an apartment in Domeikava, Kaunas district, early Saturday morning, prompting the evacuation of 29 residents, including one child, according to Lithuania’s Fire and Rescue Department.
The blaze was reported just before 2 a.m. in a three-storey residential building on Vandžiogalos Street. Firefighters arriving at the scene found an apartment on the first floor engulfed in flames, with smoke spreading through shared areas of the building. The entire structure was equipped with a working fire alarm system.
Authorities confirmed the fire originated in the kitchen, damaging 60 square metres of walls and ceilings. Kitchen furniture and appliances were destroyed, while adjacent bedroom surfaces sustained minor smoke damage. The exterior facade also suffered 20 square metres of soot exposure.
No injuries were reported. After ventilating the building, residents were permitted to return to their homes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
