Search for suspected object in Varėna district called off
The search for an unidentified object in Lithuania’s Varėna district has been halted after no trace of it was found, the National Crisis Management Centre (NKVC) announced on Wednesday.
According to the NKVC, the operation in the Utena district continues, led by Military Police and Land Forces. Authorities had launched the search after issuing a public warning about a possible unmanned aircraft entering Lithuanian airspace, with contact subsequently lost.
Ground teams had been inspecting areas around Druckūnai, Marcinava, Babriškės, and Gudžiai, questioning local residents and examining potential debris. The search followed reports of objects disappearing from radar in the region.
On Tuesday, Lithuania’s military confirmed that a drone found in Utena district belonged to Ukrainian forces.
