Marijampolė prison employee suspected of stealing state property
A prison officer in Marijampolė is under investigation for allegedly stealing and selling property belonging to the Lithuanian Prison Service, the agency confirmed on Tuesday.
Criminal intelligence officers from the Prison Service launched a probe after receiving reports of theft within the institution. Investigators determined that an employee at Marijampolė Prison had removed and sold assets owned by the Prison Service, according to an official statement.
A pre-trial investigation has been opened, and the suspect has been formally notified of allegations related to the potential criminal offence. The value of the stolen property is still being assessed.
The case is being overseen by prosecutors from the Marijampolė district office of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
