A Kaunas regional court’s April ruling against Gediminas Filipavičius for the sexual assault of two women has now taken legal effect after neither the convicted man, prosecutors, nor victims filed appeals, LRT reports.

The court has issued enforcement orders for both victims, allowing them to pursue compensation through bailiffs. One woman, a Lithuanian citizen, will receive €7,000, while the other, a Ukrainian national, has been awarded €15,000 in non-pecuniary damages. Both were held captive in garages in 2023 and had initially sought €15,000 and €25,000 respectively.

Including a prior conviction for the abduction of a minor, Filipavičius has now been ordered to pay a total of approximately €122,000 in damages. The earlier case saw the court award €70,000 to the abducted girl and €15,000 each to her parents. However, Filipavičius lacks significant assets to cover these sums; the garages used in the crimes belong to his relatives.

Filipavičius was convicted of abducting a minor in Kaunas in January 2024 after snatching the child from a bus stop. The girl was found two days later in a garage on Technikos Street, which authorities noted had been “slightly adapted” for detention. Despite a diagnosed mental disorder, court-appointed experts confirmed Filipavičius understood and controlled his actions during the crimes.
