Fire destroys farm building in Širvintos district, killing poultry and rabbits
A fire in a farm building in Lithuania’s Širvintos district on Monday killed dozens of chickens, ducks, geese and quail, emergency responders reported.
According to the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, the blaze broke out at 1:03 p.m. in a single-storey wooden farm building with an attached lean-to on Didžioji Street in Vindeikiai village, Musninkai eldership. By the time firefighters arrived, the structure was fully engulfed in flames.
The fire destroyed the building’s walls, ceiling and part of the roof, while construction materials stored in the lean-to were also damaged. Inside, 10 chickens, 30 chicks, 20 ducks and 80 quail perished in the blaze.
No human injuries were reported.
