Lithuanian MP discovers suspected smuggling balloons near lake during morning swim
A member of Lithuania’s parliament stumbled upon what appear to be contraband balloons while swimming in a lake in Trakai district on Tuesday morning, LRT.lt reports.
Edita Rudelienė, a Liberal Movement MP, told the news outlet she noticed the balloons had landed near her usual swimming spot. “I go there every morning, and about five houses down from me, I saw them come down. I called the authorities—they responded quickly,” she said.
Rudelienė shared a photo of the balloons on social media, writing: “This morning’s swim started with a call to 112. When I arrived at the lake early, I spotted this nearby. Thanks to the authorities for their fast response.”
She later told LRT.lt she did not witness what happened to the balloons afterward, as she left for parliamentary work. Rudelienė added she had never seen or heard of similar incidents in Trakai before.
