Lithuanian ethics watchdog drops probe after MP files lobbying disclosure
The Lithuanian Chief Official Ethics Commission (VTEK) has decided not to launch an investigation into lawmaker Kęstutis Vilkauskas after he submitted a lobbying activity declaration, public broadcaster LRT reported Tuesday.
The commission had urged Vilkauskas to file the disclosure last week following allegations that the Internet Media Association (IŽA) may have exerted lobbying influence on him. After the MP complied on May 5 via the SKAIDRIS legislative transparency system, VTEK determined no further action was needed.
According to VTEK’s statement, the complaint—filed by Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) in late April—claimed an IŽA representative had engaged in lobbying by proposing legislative amendments related to state aid rules. Vilkauskas has denied the allegations.
The ethics watchdog confirmed the declaration’s submission fulfilled the legal requirement, closing the matter without a formal inquiry.
