Vytautas Landsbergis, honorary chairman of Lithuania’s Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD), has publicly criticised his party colleagues for engaging in internal power struggles, stating they are failing to address serious discussions, LRT reports.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Landsbergis said he had no interest in participating in what he called “intrigues” and expressed disappointment that the party was not coming together for meaningful dialogue.

“Dear friends, I essentially do not want to take part in your intrigues, so do not ask for my opinion. It is a pity if my party does not gather for a serious conversation. We should be a community concerned with Lithuania’s common affairs and how to improve them. But we are getting bogged down in petty matters, and I wonder if this old man will live to see better times,” the professor wrote.

He added: “I would like to see us discuss Lithuania’s problems and its role in the world. The current level is the worst I have seen around me.”

Landsbergis’ remarks follow public disagreements between TS-LKD leader Laurynas Kasčiūnas and MP Matas Maldeikis. In an interview with Delfi, Maldeikis questioned whether Kasčiūnas clearly defines the party’s goals and vision. Kasčiūnas responded by urging Maldeikis to clarify his own position within the party and to address his concerns internally rather than through the media.

According to 15min, Kasčiūnas recently visited Landsbergis at his home in Vilnius, where party matters were reportedly discussed. Landsbergis later described the visit as part of a pattern of “strange snooping,” writing: “I am a sick man whose home doors are watched by strange snoops. And who came to visit him and why? Maybe a bubble can be blown from this? Then the snoop, some sort of little figure with pants, starts their salary affair. This is a deterrent method so that no one visits this sick man at all.”

Former TS-LKD leader Gabrielius Landsbergis had previously weighed in on the dispute, expressing concern over the party’s direction under Kasčiūnas’ leadership and questioning whether it maintains a centrist position.

Maldeikis is set to explain his statements to the TS-LKD Supervisory Committee on Wednesday. The committee will determine whether his comments violated party statutes, following a request from the party’s Kaunas branch. Kasčiūnas was elected TS-LKD leader in February and is set to remain in the role until 2029.
