Police officer injured while detaining drunk driver in Kėdainiai district

A police officer was injured during an operation to apprehend a drunk driver in Lithuania’s Kėdainiai district, the Police Department reported on Tuesday.
The incident began on Monday evening around 7 PM in Šulaičiai village, when officers attempted to stop a Volkswagen Golf that failed to pull over. The chase ended near Rėguliai village, where police blocked the road and forced the vehicle to stop.
As an officer tried to remove the driver from the car, the suspect accelerated forward, injuring the officer’s hand and colliding with the police vehicle. The officer received medical treatment and is recovering at home.
The 1991-born driver was detained and registered a blood alcohol level of 2.98‰. A pre-trial investigation has been launched.
